1924 Château Margaux is a historic milestone in the wine world, famous for being the very first vintage that the estate bottled entirely on its own property. Prior to 1924, Bordeaux estates sold their wine in bulk barrels to merchant négociants, who aged and bottled the wine themselves—a practice that left buyers highly vulnerable to wine counterfeiting and alteration. Led by estate manager Pierre Moreau, Château Margaux joined other elite First Growths in making château-bottling mandatory to guarantee absolute authenticity and quality control directly from the vineyard. Current Drinking Status: Critics note that large-format magnums have preserved their freshness remarkably well and still offer a very pleasant, elegant drinking experience.
