Petrus 1979 Double Magnum

This was a great Pétrus experience, and for many where it was served, their first. What really stuck in my mind is how much younger this tasted.

Leather, tobacco, ripe black cherries, menthol, fenugreek, dried red chili flakes and eucalyptus on the nose. You can tell that Merlot has pyrazines smelling this. High intensity of aromas. If it smells like an aged but not too-aged Pomerol, it tastes even younger still. Flavors of ripe black cherries, ripe blackberries, star anise, tobacco and sweet green pepper hint at a 20-year old wine, at MAX. High intensity of flavors. Texturally rounded, with a high intensity of flavors. Finishes around 20 seconds.

Medium + body with sturdy medium tannins and medium acid. Drink now. At peak if you get a well stored bottle...
