Rayas Chateauneuf Du Pape 2015

Rayas Chateauneuf Du Pape 2015

The Wine

Produced entirely from old-vine Grenache grown on the rare, fine sandy soils of Château Rayas' Le Coeur and Le Couchant parcels in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, this 2015 is made by the Reynaud family with minimal intervention and gentle extraction in old oak. The result is a garnet-hued wine of striking transparency, offering aromas of kirsch, red cherry and dried herbs layered with a peppery, southern Rhône spice. The palate is silky and pure, its fine-grained tannins and bright acidity carrying the fruit to a long, perfumed finish.

What Makes It Special

Rayas' unique blanket of fine sand imparts a delicacy rarely found in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, giving the wine an almost Burgundian finesse more reminiscent of red Burgundy than the appellation's typically robust blends. Made solely from Grenache with no blending partners, it stands apart from its neighbours through its purity, elegance and understated power, a hallmark of the Reynaud family's meticulous, low-yield winemaking.
