Martin's 2023 tasting is particularly important because it reflects the wine at roughly 24 years old. He found Morello cherry, wild strawberry, cassis and developing tertiary notes, followed by a palate with exquisite balance and remarkable mineral character. He described the finish as exceptionally long and said the wine had another 20–30 years of life. His drinking window is 2023–2050.

Burghound — extraordinary praise

Allen Meadows' original 92–93 score actually undersells how enthusiastic the note is. He called it “reference standard” Clos Saint-Jacques and said that in 1999 it may have surpassed Rousseau's already lofty standard, even reaching the level of the Clos de Bèze. He emphasized its intense, sappy Pinot fruit, power, earthiness and extraordinary balance. 

Jancis Robinson — 19/20

This is one of the strongest scores you'll find. Her 2016 assessment called it “Simply glorious”, with gorgeous richness and sweetness, and considered it essentially at its peak while still possessing enough structure to continue giving pleasure.
