Opus One 1988

Critic & Tasting Commentary

·         Vinous (Antonio Galloni): Highlighted the vintage as an impeccably graceful, layered wine driven by textural harmony rather than sheer power. Notes dark plum, sweet tobacco, leather, and lingering spices with smooth, silky tannins.

·         Wine Advocate (Retrospective): Displays a medium-to-deep garnet-brick hue with savory, tertiary aromatics of cured meat, leather, dark tobacco, truffle, and cardamom. Offers vibrant acidity and fine, fully integrated tannins with a lingering savory finish.

·         Robert Parker (Original Release): Considered it one of the top reds produced from a overall cool, challenging 1988 Napa vintage, praising its concentration, velvety texture, and cassis/smoky oak aromas. 1
